Florida Video Production Company Serves Up Grouper Week TV Ad

Friday, July 14th, 2017

Every year in July, St. Petersburg celebrates Grouper Week, a delicious celebration of the native grouper fish. This year, the festivities kick off on July 22nd in St. Petersburg/Clearwater, the grouper capital of the world. Our Florida video production company along with St. Pete Film Commissioner Tony Armer teamed up to produce a La La Land-inspired dance commercial promoting the festival and the fish!

Our Tampa Steadicam crew films the dancers mid-take.

The 30-second TV ad was filmed on location at a local beach house in Gulfport, overlooking the beautiful Florida Gulf Coast. Choreographer Johanne Castagan created a dance in the style of the La La Land pool scene from last year’s Oscar-winning film. Twenty dancers including three stunt people performed the choreography.

The dancers hit their marks in the choreography finale.

The ad was filmed in a one-take shot with no editing; and so, the team had to get everything just right – needless to say the rehearsals paid off!

Armer directed the commercial with Litewave Media’s Christian Cashmir acting as cinematographer. Our St. Petersburg video production crew also included Eric Coughlin who operated Steadicam and Andrew Ortoski as gaffer, whose team rigged up the surrounding trees with string lights to accentuate the depth of the scene.

A Florida sunset serves as a beautiful backdrop for the video.

The Litewave Media Tampa grip truck rental was on hand to supply the ARRI Skypanel s60 as our key light and a variety of additional fixtures and grip equipment to set the scene. The lighting team actually rigged the Skypanel on the roof of the house for the perfect angle!

Tampa Video Production Company Produces STAR WARS Fan Film!!

Friday, June 3rd, 2016

A few weeks back, our Tampa video production company had the chance to write, shoot, and edit a Star Wars fan film for the official competition sponsored by Lucasfilm and Disney! The challenge, put on yearly, encourages filmmakers to write, produce, and edit their very own fan film set in the Star Wars universe. There are various categories in which filmmakers can garner recognition: best visual effects, filmmaker select, audience choice, and more. When our Tampa video production company heard about the competition, we just had to throw our lightsabers into the mix!

Our Tampa film crew getting a low angle shot of young actress Lennon Brock (just 5 years old!).

We started out with an idea from Litewave Media founder Christian Cashmir and developed it into a short story with the help of writers Mike Garland, Mario Graniello and Steffen Thiel. We wrote in a bit of mystery, intrigue, sprinkled in some tragedy, and of course an epic lightsaber battle (what Star Wars fan film is complete without one?)!

An professional team of stunt choreographers and performers helped to plan out the intricate battle scenes. After a few days of choreographing in detail, our Tampa video production crew were ready to capture our fight scenes on film.

With scripts in hand, prosthetics and makeup on, and fight choreography fresh in our minds, the Litewave Media team drove our Tampa grip truck to our first location in Dead River, part of the Hillsborough Wilderness Reserve. Using our Tampa video equipment rental package, our fearless crew hauled gear through the dense woods to our filming location. Miles out, in the middle of a swamp, not unlike Dagobah, our crew setup camp for the first day of principle photography.

Working alongside park rangers, our Tampa independent film production went off without a hitch. Working around the clock, we were able to successfully film all scenes and finish the production on time despite the many challenges presented by the location.

Steffen Thiel, in his (potentially award-winning?) American film debut, as Stormtrooper TH-137.

Director Christian Cashmir and Cinematographer Eric Coughlin worked together using gear from our Tampa video equipment rental package including the Canon C300, and C300 mkII, SteadiCam, MoVi M5 with Sony A7s mkII, and plenty of lighting to give the film a cinematic look. We even brought out our portable generator to the forrest so we didn’t have to stop at Tosche Station to pick up more power converters!

After a successful shoot, it was time to head back to our Tampa post production suites to start the editing process. We had a ton of excellent footage, but we needed to add in lightsaber effects and, of course, the epic sound design and music that makes every Star Wars film so unique. We utilized our Tampa recording studio to record ADR for the main characters, replacing their dialogue with studio quality recordings of their voices – much like the original Star Wars did.

Next, we reached out to our friend Angelo from Panetta Studios to partner with us on the sound design for the film; He and his team created soundscapes, brought the lightsaber battles to life, and transformed the swamp into a character in its own right. They gave our antagonist a unique voice effect as well! Our editors and visual effects team put in a few sleepless nights to make the deadline, and with the hard work of our dedicated team, our film was ready to compete!

Our editing and special effects teams work to finish our Star Wars fan film.

Finally, we submitted our completed film to LucasFilm and Disney for the Star Wars Fan Film Awards, and it was time to celebrate! aarrragghuuhw! That was Wookie for “Partaaaaay!”(seriously, we looked it up). We had the whole team over for a cast/crew screening of the finished film, which we projected on the large white cyc in our Tampa video production studio. What a blast!

Tampa Video Production Company Films With Acting Legend

Monday, May 16th, 2016

Over the last few weeks, our Tampa video production company has been busy shooting new TV shows for Netflix and Discovery Channel as well as TV commercials and Florida corporate videos right here in our own Tampa video production studio. We’ve also had the opportunity to work on an independent feature film with some pretty amazing actors.

Our Florida video production crew recently worked with the one and only Burt Reynolds! We were able to operate a teleprompter for Mr. Reynolds for his entire time on the production. “It was a great opportunity to work with Mr. Reynolds. I used to watch his movies, and now we are filming together”, says Litewave Media crew member Steffen Thiel.

Our Tampa video production crew member Mike Garland with acting legend Burt Reynolds.

On another recent project, we were happy to welcome the team from the Special Operations Warrior Foundation(SOWF) to our Tampa video studio. SOWF is an excellent group dedicated to supporting the families of wounded and fallen Special Ops Heroes. “The foundation is great! They help these families both financially and spiritually to get them back on their feet. They’re just an incredible team of caring people who know what it’s like to lose a family member like that and want to help in any way they can,” says our own Tampa video crew member and Air Force veteran Mike Garland. Litewave Media founder, Christian Cashmir was on set for the TV commercial as 1st camera assistant as well as Andrew Ortoski who gaffed the shoot. Litewave Media’s own Johanne Castagan, Rich Brito, and Steffen Thiel also worked on the shoot. Look out for it on ESPN where it will air nationwide!

Our next shoot brought us down to beautiful Anna Maria Island. Litewave Media’s Tampa video equipment rental and Tampa grip truck packages were on hand for this national TV show for Discovery Channel. Christian Cashmir served as director of photography on the show “Stranger Than Florida”, while Sasha Sebesta and Steffen Thiel worked as grips. The Litewave Media camera crew provided lighting, video, and audio gear for the high-end broadcast production of this national TV show.

Quite a few of the projects we film go to LA, New York, or elsewhere for editing and finishing, but many stay right here in St. Petersburg, Florida to work at our full service post-production facility, Litewave Studios. Our Tampa post-production suites feature state-of-the-art equipment, voice over booth, and modern editing programs to service large scale productions.

It’s been a busy few weeks at our Tampa video production company, but that’s just the way we like it!

Tampa Video Production Company Films Senate Hopeful Carlos Beruff

Wednesday, May 4th, 2016

Just a few weeks ago our Tampa Video Production Company, Litewave Media, filmed Carlos Beruff as he announced his candidacy for the U.S. Senate. Litewave Media director of photography Christian Cashmir and our Florida video production crew drove down to Sarasota, Florida to film the senate hopeful announce his candidacy. The beautiful lake backdrop behind Beruff’s business was the perfect place to film his announcement ceremony. With the large crowd of Beruff’s friends, family, and business associates eagerly anticipating his arrival, our video team was ready to capture this historic moment as he vowed to “Put America First”.

Fantastic Sams + Litewave Media = Fantastic Media Commercials!

Tuesday, October 1st, 2013

When it comes to Fantastic Sams, the client chooses their hairstyle. In the case of their advertising though, Fantastic Sams sought out Litewave Media and their award-winning Tampa film crew to write, shoot, cast and edit a series of national quality TV commercials.

Fantastic Sams Tampa Video Commercials

Litewave Media’s veteran Tampa video production company brought their comedic expertise to the project to create some truly unique commercials. Writer Jeff Zampino scribed three scripts, and director Christian Schwier along with the Fantastic Sams marketing team chose two which eventually became the “Night Owl” commmercial featuring a vampire who is in dire need of a haircut and the “3 Color Days” commercial featuring a Snidely Whiplash type character set in the 1920′s.

Larry The Vampire!

The Litewave Media team combined with the technology of their newly acquired Canon C100 camera, produced exceptional results. The commercials were filmed over a series of 3 days at the Litewave Media video studio’s backlot and two Fantastic Sams locations. Video editing and special FX compositing took place at Litewave Media’s Tampa post production facility.

Actors Ed Olson and Serrelle Baker in “3 Color Days

The first of the two scripts promotes Fantastic Sams “3 Color Days” special, and takes place in the 1920′s and features a Snidely Whiplash character. Christian and his Tampa video company decided to give a vintage film treatment to this commercial. It begins in black and white then shifts to color when the female lead goes to Fantastic Sams to brighten up her style. The second script focuses on the salon’s late night hours and highlights characters who can only visit during the night. The main character is a friendly vampire…who needs his hair done, just like everybody else.

Litewave Media Celebrates 7 Years of Tampa Video Production

Friday, February 8th, 2013

Litewave Media, one of the most innovative Tampa video production companies, recently celebrated its seventh anniversary, so we thought this was a great time to share some of our very best work from 2012 in our 2013 demo reel!

What began in Litewave Media founder Christian Schwier’s home in 2005 has expanded exponentially over the last few years. Our production team has worked on a variety of projects from feature films, national reality TV shows, corporate training videos, TV commercials, and award winning short films. We’ve worked all across the U.S. and around the world in locales like Nigeria, Europe and the Cayman Islands.

Litewave Media founder Christian Schwier and Producer/Writer Jeff Zampino win a 2012 ADDY Award for their Trend Apprentice video.

Our Tampa video crew has grown from a one-man operation to a team of camera operators, set designers, producers, writers, make-up artists, video editors and more. We’ve continually expanded our range of video equipment and editing suites. Our arsenal now includes multiple HD and 4K camera packages, including the RED Scarlet, Panasonic HPX-170, HVX-200, Canon 5D Mark III, and Canon 7 D.

Our client list has grown tremendously. We filmed a concert for gospel stars Cepeda McKay and No Limits and dove into ABC’s Shark Tank to shoot the backstory for a local contestant. We also helped women Shrink Their Dress with nutrition and fitness expert Dr. Delrae Messer and met Dr. Condoleeza Rice at the Republican National Convention. Our current projects include a series of over 50 training videos for Microsoft as well as filming two episodes for ABC’s “The Chew” that will air next month!

The Litewave Media crew wins 8 awards including Best Picture at the 48 Hour Film Project.

As Tampa corporate video producers, we filmed projects for clients like Health-e-Systems, and Ideal Image, and won multiple ADDY and Telly awards for our work. We participated in national film festivals with our short and feature-length films, and took home 8 trophies at the 48 Hour Film Project this year including best film for our short titled “F” (which will be competing nationally at Filmapalooza in LA in March).

As we plan for our next stage of growth, we look forward to taking Litewave Media to a whole new level as Tampa’s leading video production company. In December 2012 our company opened a new 3200 square foot Tampa video studio facility, Litewave Studios, in St. Petersburg, Florida where we will produce, shoot and edit our video projects, as well as provide studio rental space and crew for other productions.

The world premier of Litewave Media's feature film Jules Dongu Saves the World at Gotham Screen Festival 2012 in New York City.

We also look forward to completing our next film, The Skyship Chronicles and acquiring distribution for Jules Dongu Saves the World, a full-length anime-action adventure film which premiered at The Gotham Screen International Film Festival in New York City last October.

In closing, we’d like to share a reel of some of our Tampa production studio’s favorite work with you. We hope you enjoy.

Tampa Film Studio Shoots Next Short Film: The Skyship Chronicles

Monday, December 17th, 2012

As the full moon rose on October 29th, our Tampa video production company shot the first scene from our next short film, The Skyship Chronicles, a Steampunk action-adventure. “This film is a complete story in its own right,” shares Director and Litewave Media founder, Christian Schwier. “We also hope to gain enough interest in the idea to produce a full-length feature film of the concept.”

Don Knight (left) operates boom as actors Jeff and Mick traverse through a dense fog.

Pre-production began in early October when our Tampa video crew traveled to Tommie Turvey’s Equine Extremist Liberty Horse Ranch in Brooksville, Florida. Tommie and his stunt horse, Blade, have worked on numerous films and TV shows, including The Walking Dead, Jonah Hex, and 3:10 to Yuma.

Jeffrey Gross (left) and Devin Keebler (right) set up the RED camera.

Jeff Zampino (writer/producer) with actor Jeff Shepperd at the horse ranch.

While at the ranch, our Tampa filmmakers scouted locations, filmed test shots with the actors in full Steampunk costumes, and rehearsed the riding stunts with Tommie and Blade. After making some minor modifications to the shooting script, nearly two dozen cast and crew took their places to shoot the first scene.

Tommie Turvey, stunt double, as the evil Gustav.

Actors Jeffrey Shepperd and Mick Ellis played the two guards being hunted by the film’s villain Gustav (Ed Olson). Tommie rode Blade and performed several challenging stunts including the horse rearing up and chasing the actors. “We even shot some of the chase scenes from the back of an ATV Mule!” says the Tampa film director.

Jeffery Shepperd (left) and Mick Ellis (right) let their guard down.

Co-Directors of Photography, Steve Allen and Ryan Grosjean, were behind the RED Scarlet Camera (filming in 4k) and the Canon 5D Mark III (Camera B). The camera crew (see complete list below) used a jib and dolly for action shots.

Steve Allen (co-DP) operating the jib and RED camera (shooting in 4K)

Our costume designer, Bridget, with stunt double and expert horseman, Tommie Turvey.

The intense chases required the actors to move swiftly over rough terrain while dodging trees and low hanging branches. “We were on a horse ranch in the middle of the woods, so there was no light aside from the moon and the lights we brought,” explains Schwier.  “Since there was no power, we had to bring our own generator. It was quite a task hauling a multi-thousand watt generator out into the woods!”

Ryan GrosJean (Co-DP) and Andrew Ortoski (Gaffer) discuss lighting.

Thankfully Andrew Ortoski, our gaffer and movie lighting master, provided the film crew with a condor, or lighting lift, that projected moon-like rays from almost 100 feet in the air.  “We’re so happy with how the chase scenes turned out,” says Schwier. “We’re looking forward to the post production process and editing the scene in our Tampa post production studio.

Ryan Grosjean (co-DP), Jeffrey Gross (AC) and Devin Keebler (AC) make some camera adjustments.

To add texture and dimension to the scenes, the crew brought in an industrial-grade fog machine. “Getting the right amount of fog in each scene for continuity was definitely the biggest hurdle of the night,” says Schwier. “In some shots the wind would blow all the fog away, and in others there would be too much and we had to disperse it.”  But by the end of the night, Jeff Zampino, our Producer/Writer, was a master at wielding the fog machine.

Mike Barnitt, our sound mixer, and some of the film crew.

Later in the night the temperature dropped into the low 40’s but our cast and crew soldiered on, and the last shot was taken as the sun began to rise. “We were all tired,” says Schwier, “but our sense of accomplishment kept our spirits up through the night. We were all definitely glad to be home in warm beds later that morning though!”

Ryan Grosjean (co-DP), Christian Schwier (director), and Steve Allen (co-DP) pause for a photo.

Tampa Video Production Studio Films ABC’s Shark Tank

Wednesday, November 7th, 2012

Our Tampa video production company was hired by ABC to film the back story package for two local contestants appearing on the new season of the hit show Shark Tank.

ABC producers flew from Los Angeles before the show to film the story of David Mealey, an unemployed golf equipment salesman, and his pregnant wife Nique. Footage was shot on a North Tampa golf course and inside the clubhouse.  Their product, Back 9 chicken dip, was presented to the Sharks on October 5.

The Shark Tank crew was eager to partner with Litewave Media, a veteran reality show production company, and was thrilled with how smoothly the day went. The Tampa video crew included camera operator Christian Schwier, sound technician Mike Barnitt, and production assistant, Harold Hood.

Litewave Media founder, Christian Schwier, on the Shark Tank set.

“It was a fantastic experience to work with the Shark Tank producers,” says Schwier. “We shot on the Sony XDCAM PDW-700 and used a variety of sound gear to get great audio for the different shots.”

The Mealeys pitched their dips, which include Bubba’s Chicken Wing dip, then stayed poised during an interrogation from Shark Lori Greiner. After some negotiating, the couple secured $150,000 in a partnership deal from Greiner and fellow Shark Robert Herjavec. The money will be used to fund production and distribution. Tampa Film Studio Shoots Video of Champion Wakeboarder Shota Tezuka

Tuesday, October 9th, 2012

Our Tampa video production company recently traveled to Orlando, Florida to shoot a series of TV commercials with world champion wakeboarder, Shota Tezuka.

Wakeboarding, slotted to be a trial sport in the 2016 Olympics, involves riding a fiberglass board over water while being towed by a boat. The sport uses a combination of water skiing, snowboarding and surfing techniques. Shota, 19, held the Junior Pro Men’s title before accepting a position on the coveted MasterCraft team this year.

“We were hired by Espritline, a company that teaches Japanese people to speak English,” explains Litewave Media founder Christian Schwier. “For the last two years, we’ve filmed the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg with them and champion Japanese race car driver Takuma Sato. When they came to Florida to film Shota this summer, we were excited to be able to partner with them again for another video production.”

Christian and Makiura "Macky" Takaharu get ready to film.

The shoot took place at Shota’s house, which sits on a private lake outside Orlando. The property also serves as his training course, with two boats on the lake and a team of wakeboarders in residence. Both the TV commercials and videos are designed to show how Shota has used English to become a successful athlete. “The videos show how he uses the English language in his daily life as well as when he competes,” says Schwier.

Schwier was the only Tampa film crew member. The team included three other video production members from Japan, including Litewave Media friend Makiura Takaharu, affectionately known as Macky. The shoot required a wide range of equipment, including the Canon EOS 5D, Canon EOS 7D, the GoPro HD Hero2 for stunt shots on the wakeboard, and a Sony EX3 for video interview footage.

Christian with the crew the day of the shoot.

“We filmed a variety of different scenarios,” says Schwier, a Tampa video production professional for seven years. “One of the most interesting shots was filming Shota from one boat while he was wakeboarding off the back of another boat.” The video crew got some great footage of flips and other tricks. Splashing water was a challenge at times, but everyone was pleased with the footage, which went back to Japan to be edited.

“Shota was great to work with and made the filming easy. We were able to capture some amazing shots of him,” says Schwier, who really enjoys working with his Japanese friends. “We’re excited to include this in our Tampa video production company’s demo reel and hope to see them again soon the next time they come to Florida!”

Christian and Takaki Katano put safety first before filming on the lake.

Tampa Production Company Shoots Warped Tour for UK’s Scuzz TV

Friday, August 31st, 2012

Scuzz TV, the UK’s most popular rock and metal TV station, hired our Tampa film studio to interview and film three of the bands participating in the Warped Tour this year. The international music festival with over 100 bands ranging from punk and metal to reggae and alternative stopped at Vinoy Park in St. Petersburg, FL this July.

Directory of Photography, Christian Schwier, spent a day in the Florida sun with sound engineer Mike Barnitt and production assistant Harold Hood. Together, they captured the stories and music of the bands and the energy of the fans.

Filming interviews at Warped Tour with band: Miss May I

Ronnie Radke, the lead singer from Falling in Reverse, was one of the musicians interviewed by the Tampa video crew. Part of the conversation focused on how Radke’s life-changing experience of how going to prison affected his music and has contributed to the band’s success. Litewave Media also talked to Of Mice and Men lead singer Austin Carlile and members of the band Miss May I.

“Two of the bands invited us onto their official tour buses,” says Schwier. “Ronnnie Radke actually played us an unreleased track off the band’s new record. It was an incredible experience.” The other interview was conducted in Vinoy Park with the beautiful St. Petersburg Pier as a back drop.

Christian with Beez - Channel manager at England's Scuzz TV

Schwier and his team used two cameras to catch the essence of the bands and the tour: a Panasonic HPX-170 and a Panasonic HVX-200, both 1080p high definition video cameras capable of broadcast quality video acquisition.

Scuzz TV will use the footage in two of their brand new shows, one highlighting the diverse tattoos inked on rock stars and musicians, and the other offering intimate interviews with musicians about their journeys as artists and stars. All footage was transferred to hard drive at our Tampa production studio and express mailed to the UK, where Scuzz TV immediately began editing. Both shows will premier in September.
